Erika Helwig graduated from Oakland University with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, majoring in social studies & minoring in math. After teaching long-term sub jobs for years, she decided to leave the teaching profession & move on to her other passion…business.
In 2013, she started an at-home business selling custom cakes & other gourmet desserts. She quickly found she had a knack for creating recipes during her study of baking science, and an extreme love for creating. In 2018, she opened The Bakehouse, a bakery & learning center, where she offered gourmet desserts, classes, & summer camps.
A few years into working at home, Erika realized there was a severe lack of resources & support for women entrepreneurs, so she did what any leader would do & she founded her own group, Girlboss Detroit. Founded in 2016, Girlboss’ focus is support for business women. Girlboss has two chapters, Shelby Township & St. Clair Shores. The group celebrated it’s 5-year anniversary in September 2021, & at the start of 2022 was rebranded as Boss Evolution.
At the end of 2021, Erika closed the doors at The Bakehouse & opened an online bakery & virtual school, E. Louise.
2022 also brings a new adventure in podcasting with friend Canetha Amour-Porter. The Queens of F-ing Everything, a podcast where influential women of the past are discussed & honored.
